Horizontal packaging
Horizontal packaging is a technology used to package single or multiple products using machines that operate with the product arranged in a horizontal position along the packaging line.
This system is widely used in industrial packaging because it allows for regular packages, high production speeds and efficient product handling during the packaging process.
The machines most commonly used for this type of process are flow pack packaging machines, employed in numerous sectors of the food and manufacturing industries.
Horizontal packaging is adopted when the product can be transported along the line using belts or feeding systems and inserted into the packaging film continuously.
It is a solution suitable for industrial production where the following are required:
- continuity of the production process;
- high packaging speed;
- precise format management;
- product protection during transport and distribution.
In horizontal packaging, the product moves along the line through feeding systems that transport it to the packaging machine.
During the process, the packaging film is unwound and wraps the product, while the sealing units perform the closure of the package.
The result is a sealed bag ready for subsequent handling or packaging stages.
Horizontal packaging machines can use different sealing technologies and film management systems depending on the line speed and the type of material used.
Among the most common solutions we find:
- Long Dwell technology for materials that are difficult to seal;
- Box Motion system for high-speed lines.
Horizontal packaging machines are integrated into complete production lines together with feeding systems and product handling devices.
These solutions can be connected to feeding systems for packaging lines and to accumulation devices such as rotary tables for managing packages at the machine output.
